anyone got clues how we can try to clean up a vintage sampler?  We think it was stitched sometime in the mid 1800s but its pretty soiled and does have some condition issues

i wouldn't clean it it could destroy the fabric or threads i would just put it in a frame with glass all acid free to keep any more damage from happening to it and of course keep it  from sunlight

can u post a pic I would love to see it

it was stiched by Elizabeth Perkins born Aug 11 1824

the lady we bought it from said she was from Succasunna NJ (which is part of our township) and had found info at the local library (we were unsuccessful)

its partially stitched a number of missing letters in the alphabet  but pretty darn cool and for 28 bucks couldnt pass it up

From what I have seen on Antiques roadshow on samplers they go crazy when they see them It's probably worth a whole lot more than 28 bucks

(((Lab))))) what a nice find
Did you do any research on the internet about cleaning it
I think that Luvs is right...be very careful... and try to preserve it from now on!
