..... to text/talk on the phone/ read the paper/etc while driving?  Then watch this:

Maybe you've already seen this on TV news programs.  It's been playing the last few days and it is VERY HARD TO WATCH but the message is important.  It was made in Wales by the police to show to teens to warn against texting while driving.  If you are squeamish (and I am but I watched it anyway) you may choose NOT to watch.

Personally I don't text at all much less while driving, nor talk on the phone, put on makeup, shave, read the paper, use the computer, smoke while drinking coffee while speeding down the road, but I've seen people doing all of these at one time or another.

The father of a teen killed here in Conn is on a campaign to tighten laws regarding teen drivers.  He was interviewed the other day on the local station and made a statement that applies as much to anyone being distracted behind the wheel, not just teens, that basically said "you have to remember every time you are on the road you could be the victim of one of these drivers".........

Julie, the link I posted is for the British PSA you saw.

CT has had the law for hands free only for at least 2 years but people are still on their phones driving all the time.  However, in the last few months the police have stepped up their efforts to give tickets for it.  Unfortuneately, it's like every other traffic law - if no one in authority sees it it doesn't do any good.

Saudi, I didn't expect you were going to say the motorcyclist lived much less jumped up and hollared at her.  Hope everyone else made it out okay too.

I find it amazing that we have to have laws to stop people from doing what common sense says they shouldn't!

Funny this thread came up today...
My Hubby was on his way to work and watched a women cause a 4 car pile up because she was on the phone.
She squashed a motorcycle between her and another car causing a chain reaction.

As the motorcyclist got up he was screaming at the women who was STILL on the phone.

We have the hands free here to but nobody really abides by the law.

I can't count the number of times I have almost been hit by ADULTS not just kids texting or yapping on the phone.

What did people do before there were cell phones?  Ahhhhhhhhhh for the good ole days.

Yes I saw it on CNN and it was eye opening I dont text I find it bothersome too I would rather call someone
Kids these days need a WAKEUP CALL LIKE THAT
when we were kids and learned to drive we had to watch films like Blood on the HIghway and a couple of others.
I think they should do more of these maybe the teens will look up from texting and watch and learn something

Tonight I watched a British Pulic Safety video on teens texting and driving;  It was eye-opening to say the least.  I don't text while driving, in fact, I find texting rather boring but my friend doesn't so I tolerate it for her sake.   I think texting in public is rude, and while driving is dangerous.

I am SO in favor of laws AGAINST things like this (the texts, cell phones, etc.).  I see people get in their cars in their driveway and start using their cell phones before they even leave their home for the day!  And, it's not just teens.  I guess like all the traffic laws, enforcement will be the difficult part of the equation.  But lets at least get the laws on the books!  I think PA failed to pass the cell phone ban:(((

no i dont think its ok...we have the hands free law but over and over i see drivers breaking the law yakin on their cells, wish i coulda gotten the plate of the nj state driver who ran a light, sped past me while on the cell phone then cut across 3 lanes of traffic to take a jughandle

that said i do use my cell (hands free) and will drink water while driving
