anyone got some good finds that have found their way into collections?

scott just got a kerosene bicycle lantern from the late 1800s very interesting & ornate

i got a box lot of stuff that included a bunch of old scizzors and button hooks.  a number were advertising ones but 1 that i didnt notice til we were driving home had a "fleur de lis" on it!!!  Also managed to score another ladies compact with a mother of pearl lid & some cook books

Where did you find that beautifull quilt?

Is it machine made or hand stiched?

One day I will post pics of some of the quilts I have from my Grandmother made before there were sewing machines.

One of the quilts won 3rd at the state fair last year but it is so fragile that I did not enter it in the county fair this year.

i dont believe akro made insulators...ive seen brown porcelain ones

sounds like u had a good find to me

we cleaned out an estate sale LOL  ive got tons of vintage hankies (we stopped counting at 114) not counting the linens a hand stitched quilt with a tulip pattern for 10 bucks!! will have to post pic of that...pounds of vintage costume jewelry

WAY too much to mention LOLOL

Lab....... can a railroad insullator be made of akro.. I have one in brown
not the usual glass.. it has the same look as akro pottery?

My find of the week....... sadly dear neighbors of ours are getting divorced
it is so sad as last year they said that this was their forever home
But today was the 2nd garage sale that I walked over to.. last time( a few weeks ago I saw a vintage Calif potter chip & dip plate... 70's gold with floral, grapes and veggie ..a very large plate (14") or so with the attached dip section fasten at the top...
Did not want to take advantage of their situation but it was still for sale
In perfect condition I took it home for $5... I dont think a steal for a garage sale
and a lovely addition to MLD's collection... she has a "50's kitchen and actually uses
vintage pottery... & is esp fond of Calif pottery...

I probably have seen akro stuff around but never knew what it was
I am sure if I look thru my stuff I even have some

the latest akro planters are the little green one 1 1/4 inches tall (the pic with the ruler) and the yellow one next to it

you can see the variety of akro planters and items they made including childrens dishes...they also one of the largest marble makers, I havent had the chance to add any akro marbles to the growing mass of glass LOL

todays finds...2 small akro planters lil mother of pearl "purse"  prob held a thimble or sewing items, pair of custard fleur de lis shakers...gotta go look up the akro planters as one is quite tiny and i believe pretty scarce

Does inheriting count?  If so I inherited a collection of irons (the type you iron clothes with)

Two of the most interesting are a Slave Iron which has a bell inside so the overseer knew the slaves were wroking.
The other one is a kerosen iron.  You fill the tank and off you go I also have the box to that one.

Thanks for starting this post Lab...

I havent been looking too much this summer..... no cash or good garage sales when I have the time..
But inspite of all of this I have actually gotten a few nice/happy things.  I donated $5 to the autism sale I helped set up and then man on one of the sale days!!... I donated some of my stuff & I got first pick of some smalls during set up...

First item never made it to the sale as it came from some items a neighbor donated.. she did say to keep or donate to either the Autism sale or the Shelter's store..  so I kept a plate..

Plate is.. about 6"round a cream pottery decorated in blue flowers with a touch of yellow.. a great
companion to the other blue/yellow plates hanging in my kitchen.

A 2nd item I grabbed for 25 cents at the Autism sale... a small pyrex bowl which I assume came from
a nestling set.. it is white with blueberry colored flowers etc.... It is now my blueberry bowl  .. for storing and serving as I love blue berries :-)

Not worth much but both make me smile..
